World of Whorecraft?

Who says World of Warcraft players lack real-world imagination

Remember back to a more innocent time when the porn industry simply ripped off mainstream films for the 'plot'? Remember that back then, well established newspapers such as New York's The Village Voice would report on arts and news in the Big Apple?

The world has changed since then. The porn industry has discovered video games are played by people who can afford... porn. According to The Village Voice this includes "high quality" porn such as the Whorelore: Swords, Sorcery, and Sex series.

The Voice's tagline for its story is, "Welcome to a dusty fantasy land of deep-throating elf ears, masturbating trolls, and chain-mail-wearing porn stars".

The series apparently is, "...based on the immensely popular massive multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft. A land of elves, fantasy, and eight million players..."

Well, ten million according to Blizzard. Blizzard, however, doesn't appear to be to comfortable with a connection being drawn between its massively multi-player online fantasy outing - and porn. According to The Voice, "Originally he (the director and producer, Dez) called his new project Whorecraft, but had to change the title due to some hush-hush legal flack from 'you know who.' Read: Blizzard Entertainment, the company that runs World of Warcraft and looks out for its good name."

Now, all we have to wait for is for the 'video games as leaders of moral downfall' lobby to blame World of Warcraft for the invention of pornography.

Wow, this news is well old! The World of Whorecraft videos were done a couple of years ago and they had to change the name, as mentioned for legal reasons, when they went into production for "season 2". Is this seriously the first time SPONG has heard of these porn films?

Spong is reporting on The Village Voice reporting of these, its quite a refreshing thing that spong hasnt heard of these porn flicks before although they perhaps are no saints im sure their minds are more focused on gaming or at least there G/F`s rathre than a database knowledge of porn!

It's the first time they've been getting mainstream publicity as far as I'm aware. The point we are making is about the cross-over... and potential fall-out from the cross-over ... and the danger of mixing metaphors.

Cheers

I think you'd get more ink from the Daily Mail...

Dear Daily Mail,

Why oh why oh why is sex allowed to rear its ugly head even in innocent fantasy worlds?

Yours angrily

Haritori

to which I would respond:

Dear Daily Mail,

Why oh why do you publish filthy letters that use words like "rear" and "ugly head".

Yours pontifically

Tim

See, that could run and run...

Dear Daily Mail,
I note that you have been publishing 'letters' that include the word 'letters' - obviously a reference to 'French Letters' or 'Johnnies' or 'Condoms' and therefore obviously an evocation to our youth of the kind of wild, rampant sex parties that so mar our High Streets!!!

Let me remind you that I read your august organ in order to keep abreast of the enormous issues of the day. I do not read it to be drenched in a rain of smut and condoms!

Yours in absolute digust

T. Smith

What bad press? There hasn't actually been any bad press yet. See, Joji old chum, this is the kind of knee-jerk, not reading the story reaction that you'd accuse Jack Thompson and Keith Vaz of.

What hope do we have if we're repeating the same mistakes?

Cheers
