Founded in 1980 by Doug and Gary Carlston, Broderbund's first releases were Galactic Trader and Galactic Empire. The company went on to publish the hugely succesful titles that spawned the Carmen Sandiego, Choplifter!, Prince of Persia and Myst brands.

In 1998 the company was acquired by The Learning Company where the brand continued as a wholly-owned subsidiary. TLC later changed hands several times, owned by Gores, Mattel and UbiSoft, where the Broderbund brand and its famous titles continue to thrive.

Software Highlights from Credited Titles

Broderbund's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1980 title, "Galactic Trader" (Apple II).

The company has been involved titles released on the PC, Power Mac, SNES, Amiga, ST, Mac, NES, C64, Vic-20, Amstrad CPC, MSX, Apple II, TRS-80, IBM PC Jr., Atari 5200, Atari 400/800/XL/XE and Atari 2600/VCS.

The company's most recent involvement was on the 1999 release "Prince of Persia 3D" (PC).
