Summary

On reflection, it seems almost as though EA developer DICE was destined to make a Star Wars: Battlefront game. The studio has made its name mixing vehicles and infantry in a combat-based, shoot-'em-up games environment. Well, now it's finally here.

Battlefront sets its sights firmly on the epic battles that are the centrepieces of the grand saga of Star Wars. The game offers a series of large-scale battles set in the period of the original trilogy with a firm emphasis on multiplayer (though battles can be played out locally against AI and with a friend in split-screen, if you prefer).

Dodge between the feet of AT-ATs on Hoth, pilot Imperial speeders across Endor or engage in intense dogfights with TIE fighters and X-wings filling the skies!

Online matches can host up to 40 players for some seriously widescreen action. Battlefront features a host of game modes, played out over legendary locations such as Hoth, Endor and Tatooine, as well as the previously unexplored planet of Sullust. Lots of care has been put into getting every last aspect of the Star Wars universe visually just right, and the game can comfortably claim the title of most photo-realistic Star Wars game to date.

Of course, it doesn't get much more Star Wars than some of the fan service DICE has included here. Players can slip into the cloak of Darth Vader or the jetpack of Boba Fett, as well as get into the cockpit of vehicles like the Millenium Falcon and AT-ATs!
