Mr Amano has designed the characters and scenes for many of the Final Fantasy games. He creates the worldview which is used by the game designers when they start work on a new Final Fantasy game. His previous work outside of the Final Fantasy series includes character design for the graphic novel Sandman: The Dream Hunters and TV shows Vampire Hunter D and Battle for the Planets.

Of the titles listing Yoshitaka within the credits , "Final Fantasy IX" (PlayStation), "Final Fantasy X" (PS2), "Final Fantasy II" (PSP), "Final Fantasy VII" (PlayStation), "Final Fantasy VIII" (PlayStation) has been a best selling title.

Yoshitaka's most recent involvement was as Lead Artist on the 2008 release "Final Fantasy II" (PSP).
