Steam is finally allowing its Russian users to pay for games with their hard earned rubles. Up until now, gamers on the service have had to use more convoluted methods to pay for their downloads like WebMoney and ClickandBuy.

Jason Holtman, Valve's Director of Business Development said that "PC Gaming has always been strong in Russia, and we're excited to help improve the experience for Steam customers." In other words they're making it easier for Russian gamers to spend their cash and Valve are more than happy to keep taking it.

"We're hoping to make gamers happy over the coming months by improving their access to great games," he assures. But why are Valve doing this now? With it hoping to roll out a larger range of games in the future on the Steam service and credit card fraud rife in Russia, it simply looks to be a way to cover its own back.
