Summary

Were any good cars made prior to 1957? Sci seem to think so, releasing Mille Miglia on the Playstation. Set in the heartland of sports car manufacturing, Mille Miglia is a retro jaunt through some of the more picturesque parts of Italy. Based on the actual race that was contested between 1927 and 1957, the game features some of the eighty cars that took part.

You could call Mille Miglia Gran Turismo through time. The game is aimed at becoming a simulator for the classic car enthusiast and it fulfils this objective very well. The style of control is more akin to arcade racers than simulators, the steering being lurchy and the cornering lacking any real-physics feel. But everything else has been put in place. The back-drops and scenery are not up to the standard we have come to expect from modern Playstation racers. They do, however, contain rendered images of famous Italian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Colisseum.

Mille Miglia is split into three classes of race which span across the thirty years of the race. It is not possible to race cars from a different class in championship mode due to massive differences in performance. Mille Miglia comes with the obligatory two player split-screen mode for head-to-head racing.
