Summary

Oni is a new kind of third-person action game that for the first time combines hand-to-hand combat and gunplay into a single, intense experience.

Developed by GOD (Gathering Of Developers), the initial impression of Oni is as a third-person Tomb Raider-style adventure. While this is true for the most part, Oni also incorporates large sections of both stealth and combat-based gameplay. GOD and Take 2 have surprisingly managed to pack a plethora of controls and manoeuvres into just a few keyboard and mouse options. Your character has the ability to run, dash, sneak, somersault, roll and shoot, among others. What’s more, a training mode has been made easily available to learn and practice your skills with what are already easy to use controls. After beginning the game proper, you will uncover an amazing variety of levels that take you through this challenging and futuristic world. Gameplay is initially reasonably simple, but as you progress you will find yourself forced to use every ounce of agility, strength and stamina you have. You must destroy hordes of robots with a variety of weapons, challenge death-defying jumps and dodge nasty laser beams and sensors.

Oni is a polished and complete game experience, and has benefitted well from its extra development time. Ultimately, this is a game worthy of anyone’s attention. Playing Oni is a pleasure.
