Summary

These days, most sports games, even volleyball, are considered part of the video game mainstream, but there are still a few exceptions. In particular, Australian Football games rarely make it to consoles, and even fewer are released in the UK. Acclaim’s AFL Live 2004, however, is one such title for PlayStation 2.

On the face of it, AFL Live 2004 is simply a game of rugby with more complicated game rules. Players must kick the ball, pass the ball and rough each other up a little bit whilst trying to score, and ultimately, win the match at hand.

As you would expect from any PS2 title, AFL Live 2004 looks solid, and with new animations, updated AI and a selection of match venues, looks equally convincing.

Game modes include Training, Tournaments and Seasons, all of which play host to a variety of features that include a variety of AFL moves, player awards, a full statistics rap, player missions, mini games, comprehensive commentary, instant replays and player likenesses.

There are only a few Australian Football games available, and this is about as detailed and extensive as they get.
