You can unlock shed-loads of material

In terms of the multiplayer aspect of the game, there is a lot of enjoyment to be had with four people in the frame. There’s a selection of eight characters (four unlockables being Shadow, Silver, Blaze and Cream) that you can choose to be as you all compete in mini-games to earn points. I’m told there will be about 40 mini-games in total.

One of my favourites involved the much-talked about Violin game, where you must hold the Wii remote close to your neck and play it like a Violin to generate the same tune as a monkey on a podium plays (yes, a monkey on a podium).

Other fun games included spotting the difference between four near-identical images in the dark (using the Wii remote as a torch) and a game where you must guide your blindfolded character through a maze using an Omochao (robot Chao from the Sonic Adventure series) holding a clapboard.

So, Sonic and the Secret Rings looks set to put right many things that past games in the series have put so very wrong. It also adds to the elements such as bonus content.

By completing missions and other tasks in the story mode, you can unlock shed-loads of material, with a menu spanning several pages of segmented bonus material lay in wait for your perusal. I’m told this content will include anything from movies, artwork, secret characters (for the multiplayer I assume), background music from the game.

Add this the fact that you can equip the Blue Blur with a few of a hundred-plus different abilities such as jumping higher, more speed and better jump control, and you have a Sonic game that looks able to competently handle new concepts, while for the first time in ages, remaining true to the original concept of Sonic in the first place. Keep an eye on this title, it could be the next major Wii game you must own.

I love how you added "(Essex for 'broken')". Priceless. :o)

It's true, though.

As long as it's true, geezer... as long as it's true... We wouldn't want a munted preview now would we, treacle?

Munted. Rhymes with *unted.

Not the most imaginative rhyming slang now, is it?

I always thought it meant pissed, stoned, wasted... generally off your face.
