The 3D platform game was brought about following the release of the first 3D capable platforms of PlayStation and Saturn. The definition of a 3D platformer can be taken in one of two ways: either the game is full 3D, free roaming with manipulative cameras, or the game remains a 2D experience placed in a 3D environment. The latters pseudo 3D approach is sometimes the best option for games, and Lucky Luke suits this technique perfectly.
Set in the Wild Wild West, you take on the role of the simple sheriff, Lucky Luke, in a good versus evil quest against the bad guy, Dalton. After an amusing FMV sequence showcasing the games story line, you will begin the pseudo 3D scrolling platformer with just a single pistol at your aid. From here on in, you must practice and perfect your sharp-shooting skills to progress through Lucky Lukes seventeen or so levels. With almost every step you take you will come across some seemingly meaningless puzzle which, when accomplished, reveal further stages of the game. There are also a number of well placed obstacles present to hinder you progress, but most of these can be tackled through he use of dynamite, one of the games many collectibles. Floating dollars amongst other bonuses can be obtained throughout the game, increasing your life limit in the progress.
Lucky Luke may not be the most technologically advanced title released on the six-year-old platform but it is an intriguing platformer that incorporates an original theme and some challenging gameplay aspects.
