Summary

At the risk of being chased down the street by angry TOCA fans, Sports Car racing is arguably the pinnacle of production car performance and nowhere is the excitement level higher than in the GT series. The three tiered GT series invites the player to participate in blisteringly fast racing where you can get behind the wheel of some of the world’s most desirable motors, put your foot down, and reach 200 mph or more.

Sports Car GT follows the well-worn path of titles such as Roadsters and the unbeatable Gran Turismo games in that you simply have to perform to get anywhere in the series. Buy a car, enter at the qualifying stage, and if you race well, you can earn money to make improvements and modifications to your car. When you qualify on each course (which can take some time, adding to the projected longevity of the game), you can enter the GT3 series. Continue through the ranks to GT2 and eventually GT1, and you can expect the competition to get stiffer and the tracks trickier. As you progress, the game-play becomes more challenging and the demands on your ability to tune and handle your car escalate.

While it cannot hold a candle to the likes of the various Gran Turismo and TOCA titles, Sports Car GT is a tough little cookie. It’s worth a look if you see a cheap copy.
