Summary

Boss tuneage from the folks at Pitbull Syndicate and Infogrames, Demolition Racer is so punk rock, it should come in PVC packaging and pierced with several safety pins. It’s a no-nonsense, supercharged game of high-speed destruction, featuring very imaginative courses and some serious muscle cars. To a thumping soundtrack of what could be deemed as techno-metal and snarling engine sounds, any one of several race modes invites you take part in an orgy of dented fenders and blazing motors.

Trying to destroy any car that gets in your way, while finishing in as high a position as possible is the key to progress in the demolition league, and as further tracks and more powerful cars become unlocked, things can get very hairy indeed. Points are scored by flipping your opponents’ vehicles, ramming them into the wall, or landing on the roof of a fellow competitor after taking off on one of the many jumps and ramps. However, be warned, you had better be able to take a great deal of punishment, as other cars will try to do as much damage to you as you do to them. The key is to cause as much chaos as possible early on, and then race like the devil to the end of the course.

Challenging modes include Last Man Standing, in which your vehicle aims to be the sole survivor in a circular arena, and Chicken, in which you race in the opposite direction to the other cars. It all adds up to enormous fun, and certainly falls into the ‘un-put-downable’ category…just one more go before bedtime, you know the kind of thing. Buckle up, Buttercup, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
