Summary

Giants is a variety of different game types rolled up into one. In Giants you get to choose from three races and the game missions will change accordingly to which race you pick. At its roots, Giants is a first-person shooter with mission-based gameplay.

Graphically, Giants is a visual feast. The game engine runs smoothly at high resolutions and the special effects are amazing. If you own a high-end graphics card, Giants will push it and it will look stunning. Giants uses new techniques like bump-mapping to bring the environments to life. Check out the screenshots for examples of the visual splendour.

The missions can vary from using your newly acquired backpack to rescue aliens dangling from the edge of a cliff to jet-skiing. There are so many different objectives to accomplish it keeps the game feeling fresh as you play through. It’s never a case of more of the same.

One of the best aspects of Giants is its multi-player support. You can use Gamespy Arcade to find games in progress on the Internet. Multi-player games can either be Death Matches or Capture the Smartie (flag). Deathmatches are excellent, fast-paced affairs; remember to blink from time to time. Capture the Smartie is more team-based, where good communication is essential.

There is also a fair amount of tongue in cheek humour, which makes the game more enjoyable. If you fancy a beautiful, playable, next-generation PC title, Giants is the one to go for.
