Jet Racer - PlayStation

It is safe to say that the majority of today’s video games can be placed easily into one category or another, whether it’s labelled as a racing game or a beat-em-up or one of the many other varieties on offer. But there are some games that stand out as being different from most. Jet Racer, in particular, is one of these titles, and while it is very similar to the Nintendo classic Wave Race on first sighting, the two games are actually quite different from one another. Where Wave Race was essentially a race-orientated game, Jet Racer is mainly about traditional surfing of the waves.

First and foremost, Jet Racer is one of simplest games to be created in today’s hostile industry, but that doesn’t mean it should be judged on its presentation or graphical performance. As far as games of this type go, it’s actually quite enjoyable.

After selecting one of the three game modes, including Trick Mode and Free Ride, you must then choose the rider you wish to play as, the specification of your jet ski, and where you want to get wet. Generally, the environments and locations look the same due to the aquatic environments. Regardless of where you may be racing, the waves are still the same, and that’s the most important thing. Your main challenge is to ‘catch’ a wave within the given time limit, and then ride it as long as possible to score points. Incorporating tricks into the ride earns you additional points. Attempting to beat the scores of the opposition is essentially the main driving force of the game.

While Jet Racer is nothing special, its gameplay stands out over any other feature. Give it a go, it’s worth it.
