Summary

After several delays and a little refining, Brightstar is finally ready to release Halcyon Sun, and it looks as though it’s been worth the wait.

The dramatic action centres on the struggle of the Carolan Alliance to rid themselves of the menace posed by the Nolledah Revolutionary Republic. They are supported in their efforts by their allies, the Eridani – although the intense rivalry between the two nations’ pilots sometimes threatens the alliance.

Your role is to play the part of ace Carolan space pilot, Dru Avery, in a series of exciting missions. Dru, together with his squad of highly trained fighter pilots, use the mighty spaceship Halcyon Sun, as the base from which they launch their daring raids.

It’s a standard shoot-em-up affair, but it’s done beautifully. The controls are uncomplicated, making this space shooter one of the most accessible games around. And the graphics, similar to Activision’s Star Trek games, look wonderfully high-res, detailed and smooth, even with the most ordinary graphics card.

Destroy the enemy and save yourselves, it’s that simple, at least in concept. Reaching this goal, however, is a challenge and a half. Are you up to it?
