Summary

The racing genre primarily consists of two types of game. There is the simulator, a game designed to be a true to life experience and highly comprehensive. Games like Gran Turismo and the many Formula 1 variants fall into this category. But then there’s the arcade game, a game designed to be nothing more than fun, and a game that many would say is their preferred choice. Leading the line-up of PS2 arcade racing games is Rumble Racing.

Rumble Racing isn’t a comprehensive game by any means. You won’t find Mini Coopers and Nissan Skylines in this game, only pure muscle cars, capable of causing serious damage. Thank heavens it’s only a video game.

There are fifteen tracks available for extreme racing, and each one has been designed to allow some fantastic stunts. Players can take their cars through big air stunts and barrel rolls. But essentially, Rumble Racing is nothing more than a racing game in which you must use some extreme tactics to become the first driver to cross the chequered line. You must learn to take advantage by using the power-ups you collect during the race and look for short cuts to get you to the finish line just that little bit quicker. From a progressive point of view, winning races and trophies will earn you access to some of the game’s later tracks.

If you’re looking for a simulator, you might as well wait for the highly anticipated GT3, but if you’re looking for an enjoyable experience after a night out on the town, then Rumble Racing is ideal.
