Summary

Variations on a Baseball theme are popular as video games in the States and Japan, but rarely make an appearance in Europe. 3DO hope to spread the word and increase the popularity of the sport with the release of High Heat Baseball 2002 for Game Boy Advance.

From a statistical point of view, High Heat Baseball 2002 is comprehensive. The game features all 30 Stateside teams and ballparks from the 2001 season. Updated teams and rosters are also featured.

High Heat Baseball 2002 is also graphically accomplished. The ballparks are surprisingly detailed, and although the game has not been developed in full 3D, the isometric point of view is deceptively convincing as a 3D environment.

Five modes of play are featured here, and include Batting Practice, Exhibition, Season, Playoffs and Home Run Derby. Each sub game, although still about hitting a ball with a bat, offers a unique experience in itself. Multiple pitch types and an auto-fielding option help to demonstrate the superior level of customisation within High Heat Baseball 2002.

As the first game of its kind for the platform, this up to date version comes highly recommended for fans of the sport and newcomers to the platform.
