Summary

Welcome to the forgotten realms of the frozen north. Icewind Dale and its official expansion pack, Heart of Winter, have finally been brought together as one bargain package. PC-owning, role-playing adventurers can now batten the hatches and get down to some serious magic and mayhem.

There are few RPG’s that let you create your character to such a degree as Icewind Dale. You can tinker with appearance, gender, warrior type and even personality traits. Once you have created your character, you will be able to read a short bio about yourself.

After beginning your adventure, you must battle your way through hordes of evil monsters and bad tempered folks, and explore, explore and explore some more. And if you find that you’re all ‘explored out’ after Icewind Dale, Heart of Winter is waiting in the wings.

These two games’ visual capabilities will strike a chord with PC role-playing fans. The scenery is presented as pre-rendered scrolling backgrounds, in which you guide your self-created character. Icewind Dale and Heart of Winter are both presented in 2D and the lack of a third dimension allows for some impressive animation and magic effects. Icewind Dale and its add-on companion are certainly amongst the most handsome of RPG’s.
