Summary

MegaRace is back, bigger and badder than ever before. The original futuristic racing game used pre-rendered backgrounds and offered a straightforward racing experience. MegaRace 3 takes full advantage of today’s 3D-capable hardware to deliver a fast paced, exhilarating, real-time ride of your life.

MegaRace 3 offers a wide assortment of vehicles to race in and against. Each craft has its own unique strengths and characteristics. Each vehicle is graded by how fast it goes, how much damage it can inflict and how resilient it is. Finding the ship with the right balance to suit your driving style takes a little time. The weapon aspect adds a tactical edge to the action. Taking out the race leader with a missile just before they cross the line is always satisfying.

MegaRace’s story is essentially that of a futuristic television show watched by millions. Presenter Lance Boyle makes a welcome return, reporting on race events as the championship unfolds. Lance’s commentary is frequently amusing and helps ease the pre-race tension.

Aside from the transition to real-time graphics, MegaRace boasts a whole new range of features to improve the racing experience. The total number of tracks has increased to 33, and it will take some time to master the layout of all these circuits. There are 12 different vessels to race, and each craft incorporates a modular design. As you earn money from winning races you can upgrade your maximum speed, and your offensive and defensive capabilities.

If you like games such as Wipeout, MegaRace is another good example of the futuristic racing genre.
