Summary

Big Air Freestyle is a game with designs on everyone's time. We challenge even the non-motorcycling types among you to pass this game by. Watching someone else play BAF makes you want to have a go - always the sign of a good game. The phrase 'pick up and play' could have been coined, if not for this game, then certainly for the genre it fits into. Did someone mention Extreme Biking? Sick Cycles? New genre ahoy!

Freestyle is the key word when it comes to having a quick thrash around one of the 25+ tracks. Big Air Freestyle is one of those games that'll not make you late for those important appointments - quick races and one-offs are readily available. There is also a deeper side to the game, with a selection of extreme bike models for each engine class - 125cc, 250cc and 500cc, and over two dozen motocross and supercross tracks and six fantasy freestyle arenas to conquer. Each track, indoors and out, is very much alive with the sights and sounds (but sadly, not the smells) of the world of extreme biking. Spectators scream and holler, flags and banners are hoisted and waved, and track officials and cameramen are scattered around the arenas. The piercing roar of the motorcycle engine is overwhelmed only by the pounding soundtrack, featuring US rock no-marks such as 311 and Sugarcult. It seems that no motocross/supercross game can escape the music of angry young men these days, and Big Air Freestyle is no exception. Where are The Ramones when you need them? Oh well.

Despite the unoriginal musical backing (the makers should have ripped a few leaves out of the books of Mat Hoffman and Tony Hawk) Big Air Freestyle offers an awful lot of gameplay, and it looks really good too. It could have been another Freekstyle, but we're happy to report that it's much better than that!
