Summary

From a small Japanese company called Red Entertainment, Gungrave, an anime-style adventure with a grudge against all things pleasant, is a sinister lesson on how to do it alone as players assume the role of a being known only as "Beyond the Grave". Ooh, chilling!

In each hand he wields a deadly weapon of destruction - a gun he calls Cerberus. And on his back, he carries a coffin, loaded with weapons. He smells of death, and he is the anti-hero, freed of his moral obligations in favour of a selfish mission to fulfil his own desires.

Okay, Gungrave's Grim Reaper-like personality can be a little depressing at times, but at least it makes a change from the hunky-dory lifestyle of Mario's universe. A third-person fighting game, better suited to close combat in a similar style to The Bouncer, Gungrave's intuitive controls allow you to perform a variety of action movie-like combos, shoot targets with the precision of a sniper, and even use acrobatics to turn the tide of a battle in your favour, a la The Matrix.

With a fully interactive set of environments and a plot that's even more mysterious and disturbing than its lead character, Gungrave goes down as one the most bizarre and intriguing games this side of the millennium.
