Summary
As popular as the RTS game is, it cannot be argued that there are far too many games like this that are based on a single global event - namely, World War II. There are literally hundreds of them littering high street shelves, and they can sometimes get a bit monotonous. So it comes as a change to see a game based on the other harsh lesson of the 20th century, World War I. And that's what GMX's The Entente is all about.
Also called The Great War by many, the first World War is an era in which man's latest and greatest inventions were implemented in the strategies of both enemy and allied forces. Machine guns and planes were all relatively new. So you could say that The Entente is in many respects a history lesson.
In the game, players are able to command an army of troops in one of five vital European countries that comprise of Russia, France, Germany, Austria and of course, Britain. Each of these forces are powerful, and in some ways, unique. But the game really comes to life when you pit your wits on the battlefield.
In what is one of the largest-scale virtual conflicts we've ever seen, The Entente allows its players to command 10,000-strong armies in battle. In fact, some 80,000 units can be displayed on any single map - a remarkable achievement. Your task as commander is to lead them victory by means of a classic click-and-drag play mechanic that sees you controlling large groups of troops rather than single troops for convenience. You'll have to work out formation strategies and uncover the most efficient way to take down your enemies to succeed.
So, you have five playable nations, five playable campaigns, tens of thousands of troops to play with and an epic story based on a real historical event. It has all the makings of a classic RTS outing.
