With one eye on the Xmas market, and in the hope of scaring the trousers off its players in a doubly evil stylee, Sierra celebrated 2002's festive season by bringing us the perfect gift: Aliens Vs Predator 2 Gold Edition, featuring the sequel to AVP and its add-on, Primal Hunt.
Aliens Vs Predator 2 allows players to participate as any of three races - the Alien, the Predator and the aggressive Marine. Each of the three sections of the game comes with a series of unique levels that are suited to the capabilities of the species. For example, the marine is weak and is equipped with a heavy arsenal of weapons, while the Alien lacks weapons, but is able to climb the deepest chasms and traverse the steepest environments. This feature alone effectively splits AVP2, like the first title in the series, into three individual games.
The expansion disc Primal Hunt introduces nine new levels (three per species) to make up the single player experience, allowing players to cast themselves as the Predalien, Predator or corporate mercenary. Four levels of intense multiplayer combat are also included, as well as all the updates, patches and maps released by Monolith since the release of AVP2.
Updates to the weapons and combat styles now allow for dual pistols if playing as a human, as well as a rotating rapid fire turret gun and a deployable sentry gun that can be strategically positioned. Predators are now in possession of an Energy Flechette, which is an energy blaster attached to the forearm, and a kamikaze-style self-destruct manoeuvre, ideal for taking everyone out.
So, if you're looking to liven up those dark, cold nights at home, why not frighten the life out of yourself and those within earshot of this scary package.
