Summary
Closely following up the cross-platform release of the latest instalment of EA's massive football franchise is this slightly scaled down, portable version for Game Boy Advance. Only slightly, mind, as they've squeezed an incredible amount of game onto the tiny cartridge here, and subsequently delivered an extremely comprehensive pocket footie sim.
In much the same way as all the other versions of FIFA 2004, this GBA iteration offers a wealth of game options and modes, all nicely presented and accompanied by an assortment of licensed pop music. Obviously a Friendly is the best way for a quick start, giving you the opportunity to take part in a simple, one-off match against any one of the game's myriad official teams. If you're more inclined to go in for the long haul then Competition is the mode you should go for. This throws up a host of tournaments - such as the Americas Club Championship, the EFA Trophy and the European Champions Cup - to play through, as well as giving you the chance to join a league, such as the Austrian T-Mobile, the Belgian, and the Danish Super League.
If you'd prefer to play against more human opponents then you can take advantage of the game's multiplayer capabilities, link up to four GBA's, and play head-to-head. And while we're on the subject of connectivity, the game also enables you to link up to your GameCube (with its respective copy of the game, of course) and unlock such bonuses as extra tournaments and rewards.
As is always the case with FIFA games, 2004 comes complete with masses of authentic data and statistics - 6,000 real life players in total, from over 300 official teams. As such, you can take part in those brilliant novelty matches between, say, Le Mans, and, erm, Young Boys of Bern - like we always do... Without fail.
