Konami's popular trading card series makes its first appearance on the PC with the release of Yugi the Destiny, the first in a forthcoming series of Power of Chaos titles. As some kind of celebratory measure, a Limited Collector's Edition of the game has also been released, complete with a pack of the trading cards and novelty packaging, designed to resemble the famous triangular Millennium Puzzle, which is synonymous with the series. It also looks a lot like a posh box of chocolates. The game itself has been designed to introduce the PC gaming community to the joys of the Yu-Gi-Oh! concept, offering a technically impressive recreation of the strategic card game, in which players challenge the series' ultimate master - Yami Yugi.

Now this in itself is no easy task, and anyone familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh! will attest that the game itself is far from simple. Thankfully, the game comes complete with a comprehensive tutorial (a feature strongly lacking from some Yu-Gi-Oh titles) designed to ease you into the complexities of the game by explaining the many possibilities the cards afford via a series of visual demonstrations, with Yami Yugi himself offering advice and playing tips.

Once you feel you can handle the challenge, you're then ready to face Yami Yugi in either 'best out of three' Match Duel battles or Single Duels. In each case you're dealt a number of trap, monster and spell cards from a deck of 155, which you then have to combine in order to launch attacks on those held by Yami Yugi or to defend from his attacks. When the opponent's hit-points are depleted, that particular game is won. As is generally the case with trading card games, the ultimate challenge is to collect them all - obviously in this case that means 155, which is quite a task.

Being a PC title, Yugi the Destiny benefits from a hassle-free, mouse-based control interface that gives you powerful control over your deck. You also get visually impressive, detailed representations of the cards, thanks to the added power of your average PC. The overall result makes for an ideal introduction for the Yu-Gi-Oh! series, which should win a few new fans from the virgin PC territory.
