Summary

Virtual board games are in plentiful supply on the PC platform, but their appearance on consoles are rare occasions. With the help of Midas Interactive, keen brainiacs can now engage in a mental struggle on PS2 with the aptly named Ultimate Mind Games.

With a sub-£15 price point, you don't have to be a genius to see that Ultimate Mind Games is good value for money. There's an incredible array of 15 brain teasers that comprise of Chess, Draughts, Backgammon, Go, Four-in-a-row, Capture the Flag, Pairs, Fan Tan, Domination, Katah, Crystals, Seven Bridge, Chinese Checkers, Leap Frog and Page One. Some are more familiar than others, but there are games available for players of any skill level. It's a family affair, really.

What's more, Ultimate Mind Games not only allows you to pick and choose which game to play, it also comes complete with a story mode in which you go head to head with a variety of computer controlled opponents in numerous locations around the globe. The rewards are good too, boasting unlockable mini-games.

Additionally, players can ignore computer-controlled opponents altogether, instead favouring a multi-player match against a friend or two. It's basically just like pulling a board game out of the cupboard without having to clear up the mess afterwards.

Ultimate Mind Games may not be amongst PS2's A-list, but it's great fun to play and a real mindbender.
