Summary

With the threatened return to the arcade of the original Space Invaders on the horizon, and developer and copyright holder Taito's 50th birthday celebrations underway, Empire Interactive have the good sense to bring out the adolescent in us (well, those of us old enough to have experienced the phenomenon first time around) by releasing Space Invaders 25th Anniversary on PS2. What about the fact that Space Invaders first appeared in 1978, you may ask. So Empire are a few months late - whaddya want, a gold star for maths? Get out of here! Happy 26th, Space Invaders!

Ahem. Space Invaders, in all its guises, can always be relied upon for some addictive and competitive gameplay. With nine different variations on the theme, there's plenty of nostalgia on offer for those of an advanced age, and the young 'uns get to see what all the fuss is about too.

The battle to save the planet from alien attack takes place in the following flavours:

  • Tabletop: Cellophane version

  • Tabletop: Monochrome version

  • Tabletop: Colour version

  • Upright version

  • Part II: Upright version

  • Part II Tabletop: Colour version

  • 3D Mode

  • Versus Mode

  • Doubles Mode
