Developed by Guillemot Inc., and brought to you by Ubisoft, here’s a genuinely interesting and innovative title to accompany the launch of the Nintendo DS. Sprung: The Dating Game, casts you as an attractive young singleton on holiday at the Snowbird Ski Resort in Colorado. It doesn’t matter if you’re a boy or a girl in real life – in a titillating twist you can be either in the game, one of two characters called Brett and Becky, who are both looking for love.
Making ingenious use of the DS’s twin screens, Sprung shows your character on the bottom screen, and the person you are flirting with on the top screen. Yes sir, Sprung is a dating and flirting game, and plunges you into conversations with members of the opposite sex. Using the DS touch screen, you must choose wisely from a selection of answers in response to the person you are speaking to, or choose the right ice breaker. Colleen McGuinness, scriptwriter for American show North Shore, inked the often saucy and flirtatious dialogue, but its not just what you say that matters – would be Casanovas and man-eaters will also have to make sure they choose the right body language to accompany it. A fine line must be walked, and daters must be nice and sweet, filthy and suggestive, or even cold and aloof, to keep on top of the game.
There are more than 50 missions to attempt in Sprung, and your success can win you hot dates or useful trinkets like pepper spray and chat-up line books. Different locations feature too: the ski lodge, in a gondola, at a nightclub, even in a hot-tub! There are bonus mini games too but Sprung: The Dating Game’s real unique feature is that you’ll have to develop your skills and worry about the emotions of NPCs to progress.
