Summary

Games are always getting a bad rap. People seem to think they're responsible for everything from shortening kids' attention spans to gun crime. Those nay-sayers out there are likely to be greatly heartened (or irritated, if they enjoy keeping the games bee in their bonnet) by the appearance of Rising Star's Ecolis - Save the Forest.

'Why?' you might reasonably ask. Well, if you were only allowed to say one thing about Ecolis - Save the Forest, you would probably want to say that it's nothing if not socially responsible. The whole thrust of the game is to combat issues such as deforestation, pollution, global warming and the industrialisation of wildlife’s natural habitats. None of which means it isn't fun!

In Ecolis - Save the Forest players use the DS touch screen to control units of woodland creatures named Ecolis, Ecoby and Ecomon whose job is to protect the natural beauty of Mana Woods and recover polluted land. Think 'Animals of Farthing Wood, the Real Time Strategy Game', but cuter! The different creatures have varied abilities that can be put to work defending the environment, and with the proper nurturing can learn new skills that can be put to work throughout the game as more than 40 environmental missions are tackled.

Also included is the Land Make feature, which enables players to build their own maps. If that's not enough for you, the game also supports two-player play via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and up to four players can get involved through single card download play or ad-hoc multi-card play.

It's time to put your hippie hat on and save the woods!
