Summary

Don’t be disappointed that Sniper Elite’s yet another World War II shooting game, because it’s scripted just a little bit more cleverly than the average me too rifle-‘em-up. The game is set right at the very end of the war in Europe, and centres on the battle for Berlin between the vengeful Russians and the teetering Nazis. You don’t play for either side either, instead stepping into the boots of an American sniper. And as you’ll be aware if you know much about the end of the second World War in Europe, the Americans were very much in two minds as to whether they should keep going and take on the Soviets too, after it was clear they had the Germans licked. That’s precisely the theme of this game, and your Secret Service overlords have sent you in to put a stop to a Soviet plot to take advantage of the chaos and become a nuclear power.

As you might have inferred from the title, you’re a sniper. The game is played out from both 3rd and 1st person perspectives, across a lovingly crafted recreation of war-torn Berlin. Pick your way through the environments, well aware that this is one place that nobody will welcome you. Play through the original 28 challenging missions taking out your assigned targets. Naturally the game has multiplayer online modes available. Equally welcome is the co-operative mode for two players. If you’re only going to play one more WWII FPS, Sniper Elite makes a pretty strong candidate.

Beyond the 28 levels released with the PS2, Xbox and PC versions of Sniper Elite, the Wii version also offers the bonus 'Flak Tower' level. Throw in motion control and Wii Zapper support and you've got a good reason to try your hand at a spot of long distance shooting!
