Summary

Kingdom Hearts quickly became one of Square Enix’s best-loved franchises, thanks to the magical marriage between Disney and Final Fantasy characters. This adventure on the Nintendo DS is not new for several reasons - firstly because Re:Coded is an update of a spinoff originally released on Japanese mobile phones, and secondly because it revisits many key moments from the PlayStation 2 original.

It all begins with Jiminy Cricket - as you do - pawing through the journal he had used to document Sora’s first adventure through the Disney universes. As he’s doing this, a mysterious message appears - but curiously, Jiminy didn’t write it. He takes this discovery to King Mickey, who deems the matter important enough to start a new expedition. The journal is digitised and explored to find out the truth.

This newly formed “datascape” contains a second Sora, who is ready to have an adventure quite different from his original counterpart. Revisit characters and events from both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II and use the power of the Keyblade to smash your enemies apart. Some new gameplay mechanics help set this apart from the console editions, while different play systems and a custom avatar feature makes this an excellent addition to the Kingdom Hearts series.
