Electronic Arts' “make your own world” system, Create, is less of a game and more of an fun education in how to make your own game.
Using gameplay itself to take the user through level-based challenges in order to let them customise their own worlds and gain insights into how games themselves are created, Create provides a range of tools and techniques that turn an enjoyable experience into something more.
Tools include brushes, textures, props and even objects that can be animated. These enable the player – or creator – to make their own scenes. Help is provided in the form of different templated themes and art styles.
More than 100 challenges lead the user from starter up to experienced game scene and level designer. These challenges also see new, unlockable items coming into play to extend the experience.
Once created, the scenes are not left to be seen and experienced by the player alone. They can be uploaded to EA's Create site to be seen by the rest of the community. In fact not only can creations be uploaded, so can challenge solutions – which differ depending on how the user decided to navigate to the finish. Once uploaded, they can be downloaded by friends and family to be added to and worked on collaboratively.
