Summary

Empire: Total War & Napoleon: Total War, as the name suggests, contains the might of two Total War games in one box, plus all their downloadable content!

Empire: Total War thrusts players into the eighteenth century, a turbulent period riddled with strife as new technologies emerged and new world powers rose to prominence. In this period, players will command armies and conquer nations as they play through Total War's signature brand of turn-based and real-time strategy gameplay.

New to the series is three dimensional naval combat, a feature that will enable players to get right amongst it, controlling either entire fleets or single ships. A lot of time has gone into the lovingly-rendered water - an aspect of the landscape that will prove crucial in your success or defeat.

Also new to the series is 'Road to Independence', a story-based campaign mode that sees players taking part in the British colonisation of America. In the first episode, players must establish the historical settlement of Jamestown. In the second, they must fend off both Native Americans and the French in The French and Indian War. Finally, they must oust their colonial rulers in the War of Independence.

Meanwhile the Campaign Map - a feature that, for many, is the heart and soul of Total War - has seen tweaks to the systems for Trade, Diplomacy and Espionage, refinement of the UI and improved Advisors.

In the second game in the box, you're following in the footsteps – or bitterly fighting against – the legendary Napoleon Bonaparte.

Chronicling the campaigns of the French war leader, the Campaign mode fittingly includes two decades of Napoleon's most famous battles from the early Italian missions to the epic Battle of Waterloo. We all know how that one ended, but using your leadership skills and troop management capabilities perhaps you can turn the course of history.

Three Campaigns can be taken on, from Italy to Egypt and then the Mastery of Europe. The inclusion of both objective-based missions and sandbox play makes this a unique entry in the Total War series. Turn-based and real-time strategy is required to get ahead. If you have a friend you can tackle a whole host of multiplayer modes as well.

Some of the extensive online functionalities on offer include achievements on the Steam platform, gameplay bonuses for leading your troops well, a uniform editor to distinguish yourself and voice communications. Don't worry, you won't need to learn any French to smack talk your pals.
