Summary

It's a bold move on Nintendo's part, having released a football game in the same week as the mighty juggernaught that is FIFA 14 has steamrolled into shops. It's safe to say, however, that while Inazuma Eleven 3 and FIFA are roughly in the same stadium, they're not really in direct competition. The Inazuma Eleven series takes a kick at football in a way that (to Western eyes, at least) is pretty eccentric. It's an anime-style RPG built around the beautiful game. Inazuma Eleven 3 comes in two different flavours: Bomb Blast and Lightning, with each following the point of view of a different character to bring out different foes and confrontations.

In the quest for glory on the field, players need to create the perfect team. There are a lot of characters to choose from to fill out your roster - over two thousand, in fact. Also stirring things up is a new method of scouting players via - of all things - a capsule vending machine. Throw in 350 in-game special moves to consider and there's a lot of choice on offer.

The game marks the series' debut in 3D, giving special moves and 'battle scenes' an extra level of intensity. On the pitch, players can also bring on special tactical team plays that involve their entire roster. There's also a goal shoot chaining system that enables players to chain different moves from different players together to launch powerful attacks on the goal!

Who needs FIFA, eh?
