Summary
Developer Game Freak is no stranger to bringing Pokémon games up to date for the modern world. They've already handled updates of the Game Boy Advance's Pokémon Red and Green, followed by Pokémon Gold and Silver on the DS. Now, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire have gotten the treatment.
Fans of the series know the deal. Grab your Pokédex and a starter Pokémon, then head out into the world to fight Gym Leaders, save the world and... you know, catch Pokémon.
While the game is a remake, it's had some pretty serious upgrades. Everything has been spruced up to make the game feel shiny and new, while certain areas have had such a substantial overhaul that they're barely recognisable. There's also been work done to flesh out the characters, adding a bit more life to them and, in turn, the story.
Game Freak has put some work into the game's replayability. Pokémon Trainers and Gym Leaders can now be re-battled every 24 hours, and players can scout new Super Secret Bases (replacing the Secret Bases of yore) as well as pick and re-plant berries.
New to the game is the sneak mechanic, which allows players to stealthily creep through the long grass to capture Pokémon to surprise them, getting big fat rewards for doing so. There's also, of course, the benefit of all the improvements players got in Pokémon X/Y, including Pokémon-Amie, Super Training and, of course, Experience Share.
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby might be remakes, but there's plenty here to keep them fresh!
