Tekken 6
Tekken returns in stunning high definition, and this sixth instalment is packed full of features following its success in Japanese arcades. Based on the Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion arcade update, the home computer game versions includes intense gameplay modes, new environments to battle in and the introduction of several new characters to the Tekken series.
Offering the largest line-up the series has seen to date, all of your favourite fighters are present and correct in the sixth King of the Iron Fist tournament. Everyone from Paul Phoenix, Jin Kazama, Heihachi Mishima to Marshall Law, Kuma and Yoshimitsu are available for play, on top of new faces Leo, Lars Alexandersson, Alisa Bosconovitch and NANCY-MI847J to name a few. Each character is different and unique, with the Tekken team ensuring that each and every fighter's moveset doesn't overlap.
You can take the fight online, and customise any character from the roster to your liking before using him or her (or it) for broadband battling. Improvements to the gameplay include more interactive stages, with floors and walls that can be broken to reveal new arenas. A "Rage" system features in the game, and allows players to deal more damage per hit when their vitality is low, providing an equal balance when the chips are down.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
After 12 years, the long-awaited sequel to classic fighting game spinoff Tekken Tag Tournament is ready to kick butt! Following a non-canonical storyline that takes place after the events of Tekken 6, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 works almost like a ‘dream match’ maker, with fans being able to play as almost every single character from the franchise.
Combot and Violet, in fact, form the basis of the storyline that runs throughout Tekken Tag Tournament 2. A simulation test of a new version of Combot results in the explosion of a mysterious science facility known as the Fight Lab. So Violet decides to use the other functioning Combot to complete the combat tests that she has prepared. As a result, Combot can be customised in game with the movesets of other characters.
Just like the original Tekken Tag Tournament, fights consist of two-on-two tag team battles, with brawlers able to switch with one another at will during a match. Inactive fighters will slowly regain health, adding a layer of strategy on top of the fast-paced action. If even one of your two fighters falls, you lose. Gameplay mechanics have been tweaked here to allow for extended tag combos and combined moves.
Soulcalibur V
Soulcalibur V starts some 17 years after the events of its predecessor and has brand new characters, as well as seeing the return of old favourites as good once again does battle with evil for the fate of us all. This provides a very respectable 30 playable characters to play, unlock and – of course – to master.
As ever, the SoulCalibur series “eight-way run” system enables true 3D movement during matches, so some really extreme combinations can be used. This 3D movement is also combined with an updated and refined battle system; the updated graphics also enable the gamer to involve themselves in the complex, high-octane action.
Also noteworthy is the appearance of Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
Players can now use new defensive and offensive combinations to ensure that their chosen character wins through. In fact, with the return of the character creator, players can now hugely alter their character’s look and feel as well as playing with fighting styles.
