Summary

The NBA 2K series is back, packing in a raft of new improvements and a pretty serious overhaul of the MyCAREER mode.

One of the most immediate improvements is to the defence AI. The days of quickly zigging past a gormless defender are gone, and longtime fans will notice a much more challenging and satisfying game when they're on the offence.

Beyond that, the control scheme has been tweaked and slightly re-mapped, new physics systems have been added and the post-game has been streamlined. Developer Visual Concepts says that in total there have been more than 5,000 improvements over 2014's game.

The headline, though, is the aforementioned overhaul of the MyCAREER mode. Visual Concepts drafted in big-name director Spike Lee to oversee the mode, and it's been given a much grittier feel with tons of content, resulting in something unlike anything seen in a sports game before. Your player starts off in high school, and players take them right through college and into the big leagues (and your performance in college will affect your NBA career). Players will have to choose how to manage their downtime (laser tag with Blake Griffin, maybe?) as well as customise their own player hub to kick back in.

That all comes, of course, with the usual raft of online modes, so there's plenty here for everyone, no matter what sort of basketball game they like to play.
