Blizzard Entertainment is a publisher of entertainment software. Since establishing the Blizzard label in 1994, the company has become a well respected developer of computer games, with hits including the Warcraft series, Diablo, and StarCraft.
In March 1996, Blizzard acquired Blizzard North, a concentrated team of developers specializing in entertainment products for computer and home console systems, located in San Mateo, California.
Headquartered in Irvine, California, Blizzard Entertainment was founded in 1990 under the name Silicon & Synapse. Blizzard is now a member of the Havas Interactive family, a division of Havas, itself a division of French-owned Vivendi SA.
Blizzard's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1994 title, "Blackthorne" (SNES).
The company has been involved titles released on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, Power Mac, Xbox, GameCube, GBA, PlayStation, N64, Saturn, SNES and Mac. Of these, "World of Warcraft" (PC), "World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade" (PC), "World of Warcraft: Battle Chest" (PC), "World Of Warcraft: Wrath Of The Lich King" (PC), "Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty" (PC) has been a best selling title.
The company's most recent involvement was on the 2019 release "Overwatch" (Switch).
