Summary

Tying in conveniently with the release of Marvel's mutant sequel at the cinema, Wolverine's Revenge gets a multi-platform release, in this case making an appearance on Microsoft's Xbox.

Not following the plot of the film, however, the game focuses on the popular character Wolverine, beginning with his discovery of a deadly X-Virus activated within his body. Taking control of the blade-fingered mutant, players embark on a quest to acquire an antidote from the masked organisation that not only infected him with the disease, but that also gave him his mutation. Making matters worse, this must be achieved in 48 hours.

Shying away from the one-on-one beat-em-ups the X-Men franchise has witnessed of late, Wolverine's Revenge takes more of a 3D adventure direction, but still places a heavy emphasis on the beating up of endless soldiers and evil mutants. Armed with an assortment of impressive moves, you enter into the action, laying waste to the hordes in similar fashion to the likes of Blade 2. But, in keeping with current trends, you can also opt for the stealthy alternative and avoid conflicts by sneaking around and keeping quiet. This is not an advisable strategy for the whole game, however, as the emphasis throughout is definitely on violence and action. And, besides, with unbreakable bones and fast healing powers, you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

The game also features a host of other mutant favourites, including Beast, Colossus, Sabertooth, Juggernaut, Omega Red, and Magneto. Big lad Charles Xavier even shows his face too, helping you out with hints and tips throughout the game via a telepathic link. So it's all about sticking together, helping each other out and being united against the threat of other evil organisations who seek only to destroy you. A concept Xbox fans will be familiar with, then.
